This job was wonderful from start to finish. This beautiful ranch-style home in Tustin, CA home was originally equipped with heat only and an asbestos duct system. Thomson Air Conditioning was contracted to bring it into the 21st century by changing out the old gas furnace, adding air conditioning, removing the asbestos duct system, and running a new flexible duct.

Here’s a brief overview of the work the crew from Thomson Air Conditioning performed:

Furnace Change Out

  • Remove and recycle the existing furnace
  • Install new 5 Ton, 80% AFUE, 100k BTU 2-Stage Gas Valve, Multi-Speed Blower Motor, DAIKIN Furnace (DM80HS1005C) in existing location
  • Install the new Honeywell PRO Wi-Fi Digital Programable Thermostat in the existing location
  • Install new Furnace to existing electrical circuit, control wiring, gas supply line, and venting with new connections as necessary -Install Filter Base under new furnace for convenient and easy filter changes
  • Install Electrical Pig Tail on a new furnace
  • Install Gas Flex with safety shut-off Ball Valve at the new furnace
  • Seal and Insulate all exposed sheet metal and connection points
  • Test equipment to ensure proper operation

Add Air Conditioning (this home did not previously have A/C)

  • Install new 5 Ton, 16 SEER, 1-Stage, DAIKIN Condenser (DX16SA0601) in approved location -Install new 5 Ton Evaporator Coil to furnace
  • Install new 240v dedicated hi-voltage electrical circuit from existing electrical panel to condenser location -Install new 7/8″-3/8″ Copper Refrigerant Lines between condenser and evaporator coil
  • Install new lo-voltage control wiring between the furnace and new A/C Condenser
  • Install new 2-piece paintable line set cover/s to conceal refrigerant lines on the exterior of the home
  • Install Plastic Pad under new condenser to ensure proper drainage
  • Install Earthquake Brackets securing new condenser to plastic pad
  • Install Fusible Power Disconnect and Electrical Whip at the new condenser
  • Install Condensation Removal Pump and Primary Condensation Drain Line to terminate in the approved location -Seal and Insulate all exposed sheet metal and connection points
  • Pressurize refrigerant lines with nitrogen to test for leaks and remove moisture -Pull a vacuum on refrigerant lines and evaporator coil to remove all non-condensible
  • Charge system with R-410a Refrigerant using Superheat and Subcool calculations -Test equipment to ensure proper operation

Retrofit Home for New System

  • Install new Supply Registers and Return Grills Throughout Home
  • Enlarge the existing return grill opening to cover the entire length of furnace platform on same wall under the existing water heater.

Asbestos Removal by a Certified Professional

  • Properly remove and dispose of existing asbestos ductwork by a licensed abatement company
  • Provide complete documentation and certification for abatement, removal, encapsulation, transportation, and disposal of materials.

Install New Flexible Ductwork

  • Install new Class-1 R-6 Flexible Duct using ACCA Manual-J or ASHRAE standard sizing to all accessible supply and return duct runs for system
  • Install manually adjustable airflow damper disks on all supply duct takeoffs and twigs
  • Balance airflow to properly serve all supplied rooms
  • Seal and Insulate all exposed sheet metal and connection points

City Permits and HERS Testing for HVAC Systems and Ducts

  • Pull permits at Tustin City Hall
  • Scheduling and supervising inspections on the job site
  • Scheduling and supervising HERS testing
  • Cal Certs forms and submittal of CF-1R and CF-6R

  • Install Honeywell Digital Color Touch Screen 2-Stage Thermostat
